Understanding Food is Essential to Successful Healthy Weight Loss
FOOD IS ENERGY USE IT OR CARRY IT.
It is that which we consume for energy and nutrition. Food should be eaten to feed the body not the appetite. Hunger is what we feel when we need nutrition, appetite is what we experience when we have not tended to the nutritional needs of our body. When we do not tend to the nutritional needs of our body in a timely fashion, (small amount of food every 2-3 hours) Hunger then becomes a FEELING and when that happens most often we will eat until we FEEL full, which is almost always not only more than we need, but also more than we will use. Most people eat only foods they want, not knowing what they need, and then they eat what smells, feels, and looks most pleasing to the senses instead of thinking first of what is necessary for proper body function. There are so many options for food like products available now that advertise how much better this particular food is made now than it used to be. There might be some good processed products out there on the shelves in your grocery store, but really and truly, fresh is best for the body to recognize then extract and use this food into the components our bodies need. The human body was meant to derive its fuel for life from that which it is of.
When we eat fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, beans, fresh fish or meats, our body will naturally and effortlessly extract the necessary components of nutrition, we get what we need with no added fillers. Nutrition is one of the primary components for a strong and healthy human body. Complete nutrition includes carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals and micronutrients all of which are necessary for healthy growth, maintenance and repair of the body. Remember what Hippocrates said, "Let our food be our medicine and our medicine be our food".
Many people grew up thinking that when it came out of a box a bag or a can, they were getting the good stuff...aarrggghhh. In most cases, if it is processed, there is not much if anything left in it for the human biological system's needs. It is filler and more often than not, not only do we not get any nutritional value from it but it gives the body more foreign substance to process, (hmmm there seems to be no use for this , lets store it...) and more stress on the system.
Years and years ago, it was common place for people to grow their own food, fruits and vegetables in a garden and buy meat from the local butcher or farmer, this is a time when people were still working for their food. As time goes on, people are looking for shortcuts and fast foods because there is no time to prepare and with little or no education with regards to the relationship between nutrition and the human body, they end up feeding it stuff that contains little or no nutritional content. After living most of, or even part of a lifetime without any nutritional support, the body systems fail to heal and the results are clear everywhere around us. We now have an aging population with more than a few health challenges and they are expecting the doctors and health care people to fix the sickness that has been caused by an ongoing nutritional deficit in the diet. If we want our body to work optimally, it is our responsibility to understand how it works and take care of it to the best of our ability.
With the knowledge that our bodies have specific nutritional requirements and the ability to research and ensure that we are taking care of what is most important first- CELL FOOD- Healthy cells make healthy organs make healthy systems make healthy amazing body, we can live a long active life experience instead of one that is stricken with sickness or disease of the mind and body. Get to know what the components of proper diet and nutrition are.
DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF-YOUR BODY WILL PANIC!
The quality and quantity of the food we eat are two of the primary issues of concern for the state of our physical body and the function-ability of our mind. We are all born with only one body to last us a whole lifetime, and it will (provided we take care of it accordingly) heal and regenerate and grow and learn and adapt and be one of the most remarkable biological systems in existence.
Eat for your body not for your emotions. Food has one purpose; nutrition for the biological systems in our body that are responsible for sustaining life. That nutrition is necessary for Thinking (learning and knowing) and Doing which includes physical growth and development as well as experiencing life.
There are many different vegetables, fruits, grains, meats and dairy products that provide our much needed nutrition. We need some of all of them! So that means only a little of each one. When referring to how much you eat, one should be referring to the varieties of foods eaten not the amounts. The very best foods are whole foods in their most natural state. Processing food takes some of the nutrition away, but allows for storage and in some cases, cooking some types of foods is the only way that we will consume them now.
It is near impossible to eat the required daily amounts of necessary vitamins, minerals and all that our bodies require for optimal performance in any one given day. Optimal performance means waking up in the morning fueled with ample energy to take on every day with clear thoughts for managing our challenges effectively. A strong musculoskeletal system for good posture and circulation, as well as a clear communication system between the body and the mind. Nutritional supplements allow us to ensure that we are giving our bodies the vital components for an optimal operating system, then, it is up to us to put only food that serves our purpose into our body.
Vegetables, beans, grains, fruits, and meats, these all have a variety of nutritional values and we all need some of all of them. Eating those items will give you nutrition, remember you will need to burn the calories consumed in your food with activities that you participate in, knowing that there is a base amount of calories required just to breath and be alive. To lose unwanted fat, you need to burn more calories than you eat.
Beans and grains and seeds and nuts are all food items that many people with a European and/or North American based diet miss out in varying amounts. Most types of these foods, when added to a meal, can create a nutrient dense, delicious and filling meal.
Baked goods, white sugar, and most all white flour based foods will destroy your efforts for weight loss. These items turn into fat stored on the body faster than anything, that process starts right in our mouth before we even swallow the stuff, and because cells have memories, eating that type of food will quickly find a storage location.
In all the efforts to teach people who want to lose weight, they need to know that it is lifestyle choices that will determine the results. And on top of that - the biggest and most important fact that everyone wants to realize is that, for something to change, something must be changed. For the change to be permanent, the old negative habit must be discarded and the new positive habit adapted. If you were to make a list of the areas in your life that you currently have bad habits, maybe what those habits are and then what you would prefer them to be, perhaps that transition will happen, as long as you don't forget what the habits are that you are switching, so only one new habit at a time. Adopting a new positive habit is like dropping a pebble into a pond, the good to which you affect with your new positive habit will affect many all around for a long time.
