Always learn something new

Make a conscious effort to keep your brain active and functioning at optimum levels. Learn a new vocabulary word or a new piece of information as often as you can. It will keep you sharp and alert.

If you’ve been wrestling with finding what you’re interested to learn, tendency is, you’re probably too busy looking at what others are doing. Instead of seeking this entirely out of yourself, take a moment to look what’s within.

Here’s are some tips that may help :

  1. Relive Your Childhood Ambitions.

Have you always wished you knew how to play the piano, strum the guitar or dance ballet? Just like what some of your grade or high school classmates did? Instead of feeling resentful for not being given such opportunities then, why don’t you try reliving it by learning it now? Go through your past & jot down the items you wished you’ve learned. Trust me, you’ll soon find yourself with a long list. Makes you wonder if you’ve ever had a fulfilled childhood!

  2. See What’s Lacking In Your Job or Business.

Is it important for you to speak well or look good in your job? Is it essential for you to know other countries’ business customs and legal environment? If yes, you may want to consider toastmaster, personal grooming or business courses. Reviewing what’s required in your present career is not only a great road map to knowing what you need to know. It’s also a good opportunity for a SWOT analysis. Who knows, the new skill may land you that big break – an overseas posting or a multi-million dollar contract!

  3. Review The Essential Life Skills You Need.

Life skills are what I refer as important know-how for personal development, financial management or safety (such as swimming or self defense). Though these don’t seem crucial on a surface level, it’s actually necessary for life efficacy. For example, goal setting allows people to derive the most out of their lives. Basic financial planning, on the other hand helps one to grow his investments for self sufficiency.

  4. Consider Lifestyle Activities You’ve Been Thinking About.

There are some things that appeals because of the perceived social recognition. Such as yachting, golfing and wine appreciation. These activities don’t come cheap but they certainly gives people the impression you’ve made it! If you’ve got some spare cash, go ahead and try them out. Ostentatious they may seem, most of them are actually quite good for your general well being too!

  5. Check Out What’s In & See If It Appeals.

Take an hour or two off a free weekend afternoon and scan through those fashionable albeit trashy magazines. I’m sure you’ll be able to spot one or two of the current trends. See if any of those appeal to you. For example, when Korean dramas serials were very popular in my country, many people signed up to learn the Korean language. Little did they know that they can actually learn different languages online for free!

  6. Further Your Passion, Hobbies & Interests.

When all else fails, you may just want to explore your existing know-how. Even if you’re very familiar with different magic tricks, I’m sure it doesn’t hurt to know other ways to hide that rabbit in your sleeve. Trust me, you’re bound to find something that you don’t know!

Set goals

Did you know that the most successful people all share the common positive habit of goal setting? A study was done to determine the importance of goal setting. College students who had gone on to achieve great success in business were asked to list their habits. The students who had made a habit of setting goals were in the top 3% of earnings in the population! It is almost impossible to overestimate the value of goal-setting as a positive habit. Goal setting is simple, yet 97% of the population never do it. By making goal setting a positive habit, you can start placing yourself in the top 3% of the population of successful people.

1. Make sure the goal you are working for is something you really want, not just something that sounds good.

When setting goals it is very important to remember that your goals must be consistent with your values.

2. A goal can not contradict any of your other goals.

For example, you can’t buy a $750,000 house if your income goal is only $50,000 per year. This is called non-integrated thinking and will sabotage all of the hard work you put into your goals. Non-integrated thinking can also hamper your everyday thoughts as well. We should continually strive to eliminate contradictory ideas from our thinking.

3. Develop goals in the 6 areas of life:

Family and Home               Financial and Career
Spiritual and Ethical           Physical and Health
Social and Cultural             Mental and Educational

Setting goals in each area of life will ensure a more balanced life as you begin to examine and change the fundamentals of everyday living. Setting goals in each area of life also helps in eliminating the non-integrated thinking we talked about in the 2nd step.

4. Write your goal in the positive instead of the negative.

Work for what you want, not for what you want to leave behind. Part of the reason why we write down and examine our goals is to create a set of instructions for our subconscious mind to carry out. Your subconscious mind is a very efficient tool, it can not determine right from wrong and it does not judge. It’s only function is to carry out its instructions. The more positive instructions you give it, the more positive results you will get.

Thinking positively in everyday life will also help in your growth as a human being. Don’t limit it to goal setting.

5. Write your goal out in complete detail.

Instead of writing “A new home,” write “A 4,000 square foot contemporary with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and a view of the mountain on 20 acres of land.

Once again we are giving the subconscious mind a detailed set of instructions to work on. The more information you give it, the more clear the final outcome becomes. The more precise the outcome, the more efficient the subconscious mind can become.

Can you close your eyes and visualize the home I described above? Walk around the house. Stand on the porch off the master bedroom and see the fog lifting off the mountain. Look down at the garden full of tomatoes, green beans and cucumbers. And off to the right is the other garden full of a mums, carnations and roses. Can you see it? So can your subconscious mind.

6. By all means, make sure your goal is high enough.

Shoot for the moon, if you miss you’ll still be among the stars!

7. This is the most important, write down your goals.

Writing down your goals creates the roadmap to your success. Although just the act of writing them down can set the process in motion, it is also extremely important to review your goals frequently. Remember, the more focused you are on your goals the more likely you are to accomplish them.

Sometimes we realize we have to revise a goal as circumstances and other goals change, much like I did with my umpiring. If you need to change a goal do not consider it a failure, consider it a victory as you had the insight to realize something was different.

Don’t be afraid by failure

In order to succeed, first you have to try. If your fear of fiasco is greater than your desire to succeed, odds are good that you won’t try, and therefore cannot succeed.
What’s the worst that could realistically happen, and how much of it is in your head?
Again, this becomes an exercise in spotting how much your ego rules you. The idea here is to become the person whose ego serves them- because your ego is an incredibly powerful and amazing part of you- but it can be a cruel master if you choose to serve it.

Here are three special key lessons to help you strengthen and then actualize your wish to live in a world without limits:

* Any conversation you permit yourself to have with discouraging thoughts guarantees you'll wind up with a good reason for feeling discouraged.

* When you know that what you're looking for is what you already are -- and not what you may become -- you stand on the threshold of the limitless life.

* The universe itself is actually set up for you to succeed with realizing the limitless life, which means you are made for whatever happens to you!

Cultivate patiencepatience

No matter how motivated you are, things do not always happen immediately or when you want them. Therefore it is absolutely imperative to develop great patience, and allow your goals to manifest naturally.

The power of patience is absolutely phenomenal. It will help you transform all things for the better, even situations and circumstances that you think are destined for disaster. Here are twenty-five (25) reasons to practice patience, or in other words, twenty-five (25) ways that patience will help you.

Stop worrying

Worry occurs in your imagination, not in reality. Worry is a function of fear, and fear is your subconscious’s way of telling you that it is uncomfortable with something and your subconscious will make you miserable until the problem goes away… but the problem is that worrying doesn’t solve anything. The quickest way (in fact the only way) to resolve something that bothers you is to act in the present, in reality, outside the context of your fear. Inside its context… you could wrestle with it forever, and it will only make you unhappy and powerless.

Appreciation/Gratitude

It is easy to take things for granted, especially if you’re not exactly where you want to be in life. But, even when you’re not where you want to be, there is still plenty to be grateful for. I try to take time each day to reflect on what I’ve accomplished, what I have in my life, and just appreciate all of it.

Be grateful for and focus on the good things you have in your life. Many of us get in the habit of sweating the “small stuff” and let it get in the way of appreciating the important things – family, friends, good health, freedom and the many opportunities we enjoy. When we let that happen it downplays the fact that we really do have much to be grateful for.

Find a good mentor

Everyone needs at least one good role model. A mentor is a person that one can look up to, usually seen as a trusted counselor or guide. All the successful people I have ever known have had a mentor at some point in their life, someone who taught them and encouraged them to take risks with new experiences.

Start everyday with a positive mind-set

Upon awakening make the commitment to face the day and whatever it brings with a positive frame of mind. Prepare yourself for the fact that everything may not go smoothly or as planned, and be willing to handle any challenges you’re faced with (we know there will be some).

A positive mental attitude is the habit of keeping the mind busily engaged in connection with the circumstances and things one desires in life, and off the things one does not desire. The majority of people go all the way through life with their mental attitudes dominated by fears and anxieties and worries over circumstances which somehow have a way of making their appearance sooner or later. And the strange part of this truth is that these people often blame other people for the misfortunes they have thus brought upon themselves by their negative mental attitudes.

Respect and treat your body right

Your body will treat you as you treat it, so it’s vital that you get out with it and keep it healthy. What’s more, exercise reduces stress, helps you rest better, sharpens your mind, lengthens your life, and improves its’ quality
With exercise, your body becomes stronger, your energy levels go up, your bones become stronger… and with an active sense of play, exercise can be just plain fun. It doesn’t necessarily follow that more is better. Too much can be worse than not enough- it can lead to injuries and other health problems.

"Your body is your vehicle for life.
As long as you are here, live in it.
Love, honor, respect and cherish it,
treat it well, and it will serve you in kind."
                                    - Suzy Prudden

To respect your body means to hold it in high regard and honor it. Respect is treating your body with the same care you would give any other valuable and irreplaceable object. Learning to respect your body is vital.

When you respect your body, you are in partnership with it. You become grounded in your physical body and able to benefit from all it has to offer you. Respect carries reciprocal energy. Your body will honor you when you honor it. Treat your body as a structure worthy of respect and it will respond in kind. Abuse or ignore it and it will break down in various ways until you learn the lesson of respect.
